Are you on the lookout for a low-cost studio headphone that will give you a premium-like experience?

Then I’ve got a nice suggestion for you. And it’s a TASCAM TH-200X over-ear headphone with a closed-back design.  I wouldn’t call them outstanding for studio usage, but they’re excellent according to their price.

TASCAM TH-200X closed-back mixing headphones are the newest addition to the company’s renowned headphone series.

Furthermore, don’t assume it’s solely for studio usage. We may also use these headphones to listen to music regularly. These headphones are ideal for recording and editing, but they also work well for listening to music in general.

These headphones have an industry-standard black design and provide customers with superior audio quality, a flexible fit, and long-term comfort. The TASCAM TH-200X  headphones are incredibly light while still being quite sturdy.

At first, I am astonished to hear such a clear and accurate depiction of their audio in terms of sound. Engineers, musicians, and ordinary listeners can all admire the new 40mm neodymium-magnet drivers within the closed-back, oval ear-cups, which offer a real, balanced sound. A 3.5mm to 1/4″ screw-on adaptor is included with the headphones.

For outstanding audio reproduction, just connect the TASCAM TH-200X to any audio-listening device or pair them with TASCAM portastudios, interfaces (such as the US-366, offered separately), or any other home recording setup.

Fortunately, I am here today with all of you to provide a general overview of these headphones. First, let me give you a quick overview of the Tascam brand.

TASCAM Brand Overview

TASCAM is one of TEAC Corporation’s four divisions. TEAC Corporation is a Japanese manufacturing business with a market capitalization of 1.2 billion dollars. It was formed in 1971 and is headquartered in Santa Fe Springs, California. Its earliest products were multitrack recorders from the TEAC brand. It introduced a variety of headphones all around the world.

The TASCAM TH-200X headphones are the most recent addition to the company’s famed headphone series. In 2014, Tascam released the TASCAM TH-200X headphones. Then I got these headphones a few days afterward. At first, I merely used the headphones to listen to music. After that, I started using it at the studio for video editing.

What Did You Get In The TASCAM TH-200X’s Box?

TASCAM TH-200X headphones unboxing

I was overjoyed when I received my TASCAM TH-200X headphones. I received my package and smiled when I opened it. I saw a black closed-back headphone. It did not, however, come with a case or a bag. It made me feel somewhat down.

Anyway, I found my wanted TH 200x headphones in the package, along with a 14-inch screw adaptor and a user manual. Except for these items, I did not receive any other accessories such as extra earpads.

Key Specifications Of TASCAM TH-200X

1- Type And Design

The TASCAM TH-200X is a closed-back pair of over-ear headphones with a closed-back design. This implies that the pads of my headphones totally cover my ears. As a result, I’m getting the most out of my time.

These headphones are available in black and are composed of stainless steel, making them extremely robust. They will not break in the event of an unintentional fall, unlike my last year’s falling experience from my terrace. Hence, they have a longer average life than most other similar instruments.

Finally, the headphones are 13.8 ounces in weight, which is neither light nor hefty for me. As a result, I can simply transport it when I travel. To avoid any problems, I only need to fold the cord appropriately. are incredibly light while still being quite sturdy.

Their extra padding is tightly sewn around a stainless-steel frame to create a comfortable fit which we can customize if we knew sewing. An extendable connection is also included for customers who need to record and mix in many locations of the room.

2- Neodymium Magnetic Driver

Instead of standard dynamic drivers that use cone-shaped membranes, this model of TASCAM headphones uses Neodymium magnetic drivers. The neodymium magnetic drivers in the earphones are specialized equipment that translates digital information into sound waves perceptible to the human ear.

These drivers are built differently from dynamic drivers and include a diaphragm for signal conversion. Furthermore, they are exceptionally light and provide eight times greater bass performance than their comparable equivalents. As a result, a significant sound output is produced with minimal power usage.

3- Cable

Headphone with long chord

A cable is included with the TASCAM TH-200X headset. It is not, however, removable. I had great hopes for a removable cable. But what are other options? I was disappointed.

However, the cable is 9.8 feet long (3 meters) which is rather big and didn’t allow me easy movement.

4- Frequency response

Headphones’ frequency response is amazing ranging between 15Hz-22KHz.

5- Impedance

The headphones’ impedance is 32 ohms which is very good according to me because the headphones’ impedance should be higher. It is the amount of energy required to run an earphone. In general, 16 Ohms is a good impedance for headphones.

6- Sensitivity

Headphones have a sensitivity of 95dB which is excellent as it defines the maximum volume an earphone can produce. The bulk of headphones have a dB/mW rating of around 110, and anything less than 85 must be strictly avoided as per my experience.

Performance Of TASCAM TH-200X Headphone

1- Comfortability

I wasn’t expecting much from this low-cost headset in terms of comfort. In terms of cost, it is reasonably priced. The earpads are quite plush and cushioned which provides to my neck during long hours of work and provides me with long-term wear comfort. The earpads were really comfortable in my ears as my ear is small. However, I’m not sure what will happen to the larger ears.

I was sweating after using this headset for several hours. After wearing it for a long period, one of my friends’ ears became heated. But, to be honest, I didn’t feel that way. As a result, I believe your experience may differ.

This headphone’s arms may be adjusted. The headband is well-padded and firmly sewn. It’s enough to provide a secure fit. The clamping force is rather considerable. However, I believe the clamping force will be inadequate for a large head. If I want to lie down while wearing this, it won’t be comfortable. If I want a headset that is comfortable to use when lying down, I may choose the Status Audio CB 1.

2- Sound

Music friendly headphones

The sound profile of the TASCAM TH-200X headphone is moderate and well-balanced. I was amazed to hear such a faithful depiction of the audio, which is unheard of at this price point.

When I first used this to listen to music, I am shocked that what kind of unknown tunes I am hearing from this sound. Upon digging more about sound, I came to know that the problem is not with these headphones but with my old headsets. They are really hiding lots of aspects of music from me, unlike these TASCAM TH-200X headphones which provide me with a clear and natural sound.

The headphone’s frequency response ranges from 15Hz to 22kHz. That’s why it works well with all types of music. However, the upper-frequency response isn’t up to par in my opinion.

The dynamic transducer and 40mm neodymium drivers provide me with superb and precise bass as well as good treble. However, if your ears are too tight, your experience may be different. The mid-range and low-end didn’t let me down either.

3- Sound Leakage

I haven’t found a model that compares to the TASCAM TH-200X in terms of sound leakage. Because of the well-cushioned ear cushions, this unique model has excellent soundproofing and does not let sound leak into the outside world.

As a result, I may use them in congested venues and other public places without bothering people. Even after extended usage, I promise you that you will not be unhappy with this purchase.

4- Noise Isolation

Apart from leaking, isolation from the outside world is another element that influences the performance of TASCAM TH-200X headphones. This refers to lowering background noise while listening to music.

In this regard, the TASCAM TH-200X works admirably; nonetheless, it is not the greatest because it lacks active noise cancellation.

Although I won’t hear most of the noise, it’s possible that some of it will get past the filters and into my ears. However, when compared to other items available in this price range, it is already sufficient.

The Sennheiser HD280 Pro new model is a good option if you want a headphone with good passive sound isolation. It is capable of passively isolating the majority of the sound. You should definitely read our guide on the best noise-isolating earbuds if noise-isolating is something that you are looking for.

5- Microphone

There is no microphone on the TASCAM TH-200X closed-back headset. If I want a headset with a microphone, the Sony WH-100XM3 is a good option. It has an active noise-canceling microphone.

6- Waterproofing

The TASCAM TH-200X isn’t for me if I need waterproof headphones. It is not waterproof or swim-safe.  As a result, avoid using it during a vigorous workout.

The main disadvantage is that these headphones produce a lot of perspiration and aren’t waterproof. Furthermore, when these headphones are used for long periods of time, the increased padding may cause excessive sweating. While jogging or running, I also faced a similar difficulty.

7- Compatibility

All devices that support 3.5mm and 6.35mm audio jacks are compatible with this version of the TASCAM headphone. The 1/4-inch screw adaptor included in the system is responsible for this.

Similarly, the screw adapter can be used as a replacement for devices that do not have a 3.5mm audio port or other necessary characteristics for proper communication.

I can use it with a variety of operating systems, including Mac, Android, and Windows 10, and I’m convinced that it functions well for my new recording project. Similarly, the headphones include a nearly 9-foot chord, which allows for greater movement and adjustment than devices with shorter cords.

8- Gaming Capabilities

As I previously stated, the TASCAM TH-200X headset has a long chord and produces loud and clear sounds. It works well with the majority of game consoles. However, because it lacks a microphone, I am unable to communicate with other players.

If I don’t require voice chat, I can use it with the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This headset is ideal for my daily gaming on the computer or other gaming consoles while I’m alone.

9- Studio Purposes

The TASCAM TH-200X is primarily designed as studio headphones. It’s primarily designed for recording and mixing, as it offers excellent audio quality and comfort. It’s also suitable for voice-over work.

It would be ideal for studio use if it included a passive or active noise isolation function. Overall, the TASCAM TH-200X is an excellent choice for studio use on a tight budget. You can also go for the TASCAM TH-300X headphones if you want headphones for studio purposes.

Advantages of TASCAM TH-200X

Growing up and composing music since 2015, I’ve grown to respect the value of a good set of headphones. I’ve owned Bose, Beats, and Beyerdynamic Amiron headphones throughout the years. Without a question, these headphones are the finest bang for your buck I’ve ever seen. In fact, these are now my go-to set.

For recording and mixing, the TASCAM TH-200X headphone is excellent. It’s also good for listening to music regularly. It has great sound quality and is really comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

It is also very useful for gaming purposes as every gamer requires something more accessible and convenient, which allows him to hear every aspect of gaming sound very clearly and it is worth noting that TASCAM TH-200X produces very crystal sound.

It is worthwhile when compared to its price. The TASCAM TH-200X is a good value when you consider all of its features.

Disadvantages of TASCAM TH-200X

If you’re looking for a headset for sports, the gym, jogging, or cycling, you should look elsewhere. It’s also not recommended for people who wear spectacles. When worn with spectacles, they might dig into your skull and cause pain.

The TASCAM TH-200x isn’t suitable for online meetings or instruction. You will have difficulty carrying it because it is not portable. The lengthy chord is also an issue. As a result, do not use it for travel.

They are not at all waterproof. So if you want headphones for swimming and showers, use some other headphones that are suitable for swimming and showers.

I hope you have a better understanding of the topic now.

Conclusion

For quite some time, the TASCAM TH-200x headphones have been the talk of the town. These budget-friendly headphones are the newest addition to the TASCAM headphone line.

Despite their cheap cost, they compete fiercely with their comparable counterparts and have outperformed others in a similar price range.

These headphones impressed us with their exceptional soundproofing and comfort. Furthermore, they provide excellent noise isolation and are ideal for mixing and voiceover.

Finally, my TASCAM TH-200X reviews should have given you a good indication of what to expect from these headphones. I hope it is useful while shopping for new headphones. You can have the TASCAM TH-200X headset if you think it’s right for you. Otherwise, you have the option of choosing an alternative.

If you don’t want to acquire the TASCAM TH-200X despite all of its advantages, you may look at other possibilities. I’ve included it in the list. As an alternative, you can use TASCAM TH-300X, Status Audio CB 1, or Sennheiser Pro Audio HD280PRO.

All three headphones provide almost identical, if not slightly superior, characteristics to the Tascam headset. I always appreciate your sound judgment.
